Lipoic acid is a compound produced by all animals, including humans. Your body produces vast stores of lipoic acid to support and promote cellular respiration. The most common form of lipoic acid is alpha-lipoic-acid, or ALA.
R-alpha-lipoic acid is a very stable form of alpha-lipoic-acid that your body can use to supplement its stores of ALA. R-lipoic acid may provide antioxidant support to vital organs as well as neurons. Alpha-lipoic acid contains a natural R isomer that contributes to this benefit.
