Eye health is vital for healthy and clear vision. Like all other organs, eye health depends on several nutrients to support different parts of eyes from degeneration and damage. The retina is a light sensitive covering at the back of your eye that allows you to see light and color. The macula is a small area within the retina that allows you to perceive images and transport those to the brain. The lens focuses light and images onto the retina and macula.
Lutein are zeaxanthin are the only two major carotenoid pigments that are stored in the macula. Lutein and zeaxanthin protect macula by forming a small protective layer ("internal sunglasses") that filters out harmful blue light from visible light spectrum along with ultraviolet light. Lutein and zeaxanthin also support optical lens and retinal health by fighting off free radicals that can contribute to oxidative stress; oxidation may cause the lens in the eye to appear cloudy. Finally higher intake of these pigments may enhance your ability to see colors.
Since your body can not produce lutein and zeaxanthin, they must be obtained from food sources such as leafy green vegetables to provide optimal eye support. Including vegetables in everyday diet may be hard for some. Pure Encapsulations provide both these must-have carotenoids in vegetarian capsule form. Each capsule of Lutein/Zeaxanthin provides 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin for optimal eye support.
